Dies for Mig wire drawing
Mig Wire Draw Dies
We at Regal Carbide Dies have many years of experience in the manufacturing of dies used in wire drawing of Mig / Co2 wire and for welding electrodes. These dies are made in a very specialized manner. Due care has to be taken to maintain the concentricity of the dies which is a very important factor in the overall die life.
Die Design for these Mig dies
These are some of the factors which are to be kept in mind for making these Mig wire dies.
- Proper shrink fitting of the carbide pellets in steel case.
- Making the Outer diameter of the steel concentric with respect to the inner carbide bore of the die.
- As the die is used for coating of copper on the steel wire, very good surface finish is required on the entry angle of the die.
- proper angle lapping is done in the die from both the sides. Entry angle of 12-14 degree and exit angle of 30 degree is made in the die.
- Bearing length in the die should be approx about 30% of the inner bore which is generally 0.765mm or 1.16 mm.

Carbide Wire Drawing Dies For Steel Wires
Tungsten Carbide is extensively used in the making of wire drawing dies for steel wire , like M.S (Mild Steel) , High carbon steel, low carbon steel , CHQ(Cold Heading Quality) Steel , EQ (Electrode Quality)Steels are easily drawn from these carbide dies. Apart from Steels, copper, aluminium, brass , solder wires and various other alloys are also drawn from these wire dies.
The die profile in case of steel wire drawing is quite different than that for copper or aluminium wire dies. To get the best results, bearing length in case of steel wire drawing is approximately around 75 to 100 percent of the wire size to be drawn. Also reduction angle is around 12 -16 degrees.
Now a days, a new concept of Pressure wire drawing dies has come up. In this type of die, a combination of two wire draw dies is used.

Wet Wire Drawing Dies Manufacturers
There are two different types of wire drawing dies in the wire industry. Wet wire drawing and dry wire drawing dies . In wet wire drawing , all the wire draw dies are submerged in the lubricant and subsequent draws are taken in a compact machine of either 9, 11 or 13 dies. Where as in dry wire drawing, the die is placed in a die box which is filled will lubricant powder.
Generally dry wire drawing process is used more so in the drawing of steels and bigger sizes of wires. In case of copper, aluminium and their alloys, generally wet wire drawing machines are made use of.
Types of Dies used in Wet Wire Drawing : For bigger bore sizes the client have an option of using either tungsten carbide die, or a PCD Die. But in smaller bore sizes, generally most of them are using PCD Dies also known as Poly Crystalline Diamond die or Synthetic Diamond Die. In dry wire drawing majority of customers use carbide dies .
The Die Profile for Wet Wire draw dies: Generally for wet wire drawing, the bearing length of the die is kept very small as compared to dry drawing. As in wet drawing the speed of the machine is much higher, to reduce friction and wear and tear of the die, approach angle is kept more in these dies .
Some of the manufacturers of wet wire draw machines of good quality are:
Some of the lubricant sources are as follows;
For Wet wire draw dies some of the names are as follows:

Sector Shaped T.C Compacting Dies
T.C Compacting Dies
Sector Shaped T.C Compacting Dies
We at Regal Carbide Dies Pvt Ltd, have added Sector Shaped T.C Compacting Dies to our range of manufactured products. We have made the die in tungsten carbide with wide entry and exit angles on both sides of the die for smooth passage of the compacted wires.
We have made the die according to the sample of compacted wires provided by our client.
The die is mirror polished for best results . Have a look at the die as seen in the image.
We can make these dies as per clients drawings or actual physical sample.
For further discussion and orders , you can contact us at our below mentioned address or email us your requirements.
Split Compacting Dies
Apart from these shaped compacting dies, we make Compacting dies in two piece as well. These dies help in reducing the down time of the machine and avoid wastage, as the wire has not to be cut in case of wire breakage. The die can be opened, the wire can again be fed to the die. As you can see, we provide these dies in carbide with dowel pin attached. The die is mirror polished for best surface finish of the compacted wires.
PCD Dies for RBD Machine
PCD Dies for Rod Break Down Machine
We at RCDPL, specialize in making PCD Dies & Diamond Dies for rod break down machines. Our diamond dies are made as per reduction specified by the RBD machine. We make these dies for both copper (8mm) as well as for Alumiuium(9.50mm) wire drawing.
The main thing to keep in mind is the proper reduction percentage and polish on the dies. We have many satisfied customers who rely on us for there die needs. Generally RBD machines have 11 or 13 or 15 die capacity.
These wire drawing dies have replaced carbide dies as the cost per tonne of wire is very less in case of these PCD dies as compared to conventional carbide dies. Initial coat of the die is more, but in the long run these dies are cheaper.
